I am a numbers guy at heart. Having the ability to dissect every aspect of a workout including splits, transitions, movement efficiency, technique, and strategy is really fun for me. I may or may not of built spreadsheets on how to maximize my potential on some workouts...maybe. Helping others is another huge part that is fun and rewarding, the look when an athlete has that light bulb moment is wonderful. Everyone is learning from everyone else.

After first starting CrossFit in our garage, and then slowly joining a gym, the progress I was able to see with learning new movements and slowly getting stronger gave me the motivation to continue learning and grasping for more. I have been doing CrossFit for over 5 years now, and I can still see changes and growth. There are always new things to learn and to get better at every day; not just physical but mental challenges as well. Gymnastics and Olympic Lifting are my favorite things to do that require skill and technique which can always be improved. Coaching allows me to teach others how to move with a purpose and gives me the opportunity to watch them grow and progress each and every day. Outside of the gym, I enjoy going on adventures with my husband (Berek) and dog (Ada). Spending time with friends having a nice cocktail, listening to music and eating some delicious food. I like to craft/sew/quilt on occasion and love baking the not so healthy desserts. --- B.S. I would love to take credit and say that I sought out CrossFit all by myself because I knew it would be a perfect fit for me, but I would be lying. By default of being related to the owners, I started CrossFit in 2012 when Equity officially opened its doors. I didn’t know it then, but this was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Berek and Krista virtually forced me to join (not true, but they were very, very, VERY adamant), when I was at first a little reluctant. While I have been an athlete my entire life, CrossFit was something completely new to me and I had a major fear of sucking at it. I had just finished up my college soccer career, something I was fortunate to find many successes in. I was a two time All American, and leading goal scorer at Davis & Elkins College. I was coming off of what I thought was the peak of my athletic abilities. With no more soccer, and not knowing a life without sports, I knew I had a competitive void to fill. I owe many thanks to Berek, Krista, and the CrossFit community at Equity for filling that void and more. Intimidated me, going from a competitive collegiate athlete to a newb and amateur CrossFitter has now turned into me being the fittest and happiest version of myself. I love everything about CrossFit and the positive changes and people it has brought to my life.
While CrossFit obviously takes up the majority of my time (and I wouldn’t have it any other way), I also love spending time with my family, friends, and my fur baby Mya. When I am not in the gym, you can likely find me enjoying a good cocktail, doing something outdoors, or enjoying a lazy Sunday watching football. -- B.S. After working out for over a year, using traditional methods I felt that something was missing in my training. My workout didn’t match my goals. I would spend an hour in the gym lifting weights and running on the treadmill, but couldn’t keep up in pick up sports and didn’t feel ‘fit’. That’s when I did some research and learned that the CrossFit methodology is designed to train all aspects of fitness. It is a training program for life. I tried a few gyms and quickly saw that CrossFit Equity was one of the few gyms where the coaches had a keen eye for movement quality and made the classes enjoyable. I have been hooked ever since. It is a joy to be able to train and coach with close friends everyday and pass on the insights and excitement learned from the other Equity coaches When I am not training/coaching I enjoy all things baseball, playing fetch with my dog Mya and hanging with friends -- B.S. I'm a very ...lets say frugal... person. I did not want to start CrossFit at all because of the cost. I had been a personal trainer and division one collegiate athlete, I thought to myself- why would I pay someone so much to teach me to workout? After moving away from home, and my adult indoor soccer team, I was sort of lonely, missing the team atmosphere and wanted to learn more about Olympic lifting in order to add this to my personal training repertoire. I decided I'd at least try the free classes (lol) so I dropped in and by my second free session (which was the hero workout Murph) I was hooked. Seeing women doing pull-ups was especially enticing to me, and I desperately wanted the strength to do that. I continue to be motivated and inspired by the athletes around me at CrossFit Equity daily. Every time I achieve a new CrossFit milestone it blows my mind, and I can't believe what I am capable of with the support of this community. I guess you could say I am getting my money's worth :).
When I'm not doing CrossFit, I am at my full time job as a psychotherapist which I love. Helping others is a huge passion of mine. Providing therapy and coaching CrossFit have been two excellent vehicles for that passion. Otherwise, I like to go see small venue live music (mostly punk/alternative), read (usually personal growth stuff/fitness/therapy/business stuff), snuggle my cat Grizzly and hang with the people I love. I also enjoy riding my road bike, indoor rock climbing, backpacking and snowboarding although these hobbies have fallen to the wayside as CrossFit is my new, and more fulfilling, addiction. -- B.A. Psychology M.S. Matt graduated from Salisbury University in 2014, majoring in physical education and is currently teaching Elementary School in Cecil County. With a strong background in Football and Track and Field, Matt was first introduced to CrossFit in the spring of 2014. He quickly fell in love with not only the competitive nature of the sport but the community behind it. Matt has a passion for coaching and helping others succeed and reach their goals. --- B.S. I started CrossFit after getting a noise complaint from my downstairs neighbor in the apartment complex I moved to right after school. I suppose there is no quiet way to do T25 without sounding like you are crashing through to the floor below. I didn’t want to go back to a traditional gym and that is when I found CrossFit Equity. I have always been an active individual and played soccer in college. This developed a competitive drive in myself and has always motivated me to continue to get better. After coming to CrossFit Equity, I was able to get back that competitiveness I was missing. Not to mention, I am able to compete alongside some of my best friends. The community at Equity pushes themselves and each other every single day to be the best they can be. Surrounding yourself by individuals with the same competitive nature is the best way to achieve results.
Outside of the gym I enjoy spending time playing sports, hanging with friends and eating. If there are drinks, sports and endless amounts of food, I’m there! I’m a sucker for a good craft beer and love exploring new beers. I also enjoy relaxing and spending time at the beach. -- B.S. I started CrossFit in 2014, when I was fifteen, through Equity’s kids class. I was incredibly reluctant, but my sister convinced me to try it. After my first class, I was totally exhausted, and completely hooked. From the kids class, I progressed to the sports performance class, and eventually the adult class. As many of my friends can attest, I am a complete fanatic now. CrossFit has changed my life, and the physical is just a small part of that. Because of Equity’s amazing community and coaches, I am a much more outgoing, social, and confident individual. CrossFit has entirely changed my life for the better, and I love having the opportunity to share it with others.
When I am not doing CrossFit, I am probably studying, or spending free time with friends. -- Currently studying Graphic Design at Cecil College
I never knew what CrossFit actually was until I attended a competition about 4 years ago as a spectator. I was equally intimidated and fascinated. I later reluctantly agreed to give it a try. I had never been the type of person someone would call "athletic". It only took a few classes to become obsessed. The more I did it, the fitter I got. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn.
I always knew I wanted to help others so I pursued a degree in Psychology. But I found that CrossFit has improved my life and the lives of so many people I know in numerous ways that are not just limited to fitness. So I decided to learn how to help others using CrossFit and through the CrossFit community.
When I'm not in the gym I enjoy hanging with my husband Ryan and our friends. We like to do everything from wining and dining to hiking, snow boarding, biking, camping, and fires in the backyard with our pups Maggie and Dexter (and all of their dog friends).
